We did a study unit on the human body about 3 years ago. The kids had a blast with it!!

Vincent van Gogh is one on my all time favorite artists. There’s just something about his works, his style, that speak to me. I love the colors and textures of his painting. Beautiful.
Tomorrow is his Birthday and I thought it would be the perfect time to put together some resources for a unit study.

I got a new sewing machine for my Birthday!!! YIPPPEEE!! It was KILLING me to not be sewing!!! I managed to finagle some room in this teeny tiny house to put some of fabric and supplies!
This is my new machine and I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH!!! It’s so easy to use! I would recommend it for beginner and intermediate sewists alike. It has so many functions. I’ve been having a blast playing around with it and seeing what it can do.
It’s also much quieter than my old one. That is a major plus! I can set my playlist on YouTube and listen to music while I sew, never missing a note.
OK, enough gushing over this miraculous machine!
I decided that it would be really nice to make a cover for it. Y’know, keep it from getting dusty (like I’ll let it sit idle long enough for THAT).
WHAT I USED
Then I took a large sheet of paper and marked the height and width of my machine, turning it into a pattern of sorts for the sides.
Next, I cut the fat quarter in half for the front and back.
Then I cut the fat quarter for the top.
Next I cut the pieces for the border on the front and back.
The last pieces I cut were the sides.
Then I pinned the top to the front (or back).
Sew the seam together.
Then do the other side (front or back) the same way.
Next sew the border pieces to the front and back.
Press your seams. Not only does it look better but it helps the seams to set.
Next, pin the sides to the front/back. Only pin the top and one side.
Sew the seam.
Then you can pin the other side.
Sew the seam making sure to not leave an opening!
Do the other side.
Next, fold over the bottom by 1/2″ and press.
Fold over another 1/2″, press and pin.
Sew your hem!
I used the decorative clover one mine. 😉
This is how it looks on my machine.
BUT I wasn’t thrilled with the results.
Sooooooo…………….
I pinched the edges and sewed! Now it stands so nice and pretty! 😀

I am SO SO SO exhausted!!! I feel like I have been running for DAYS!!!
We’ve been having our van worked on. Considering that we’ve had it for 8 years and have only had to replace the transmission I’m trying not to complain! LOL It still has some more work to come.
We’ve had Birthdays this week! Cailey’s was Sunday and mine was yesterday! She turned 10! My baby girl is now in double digits!!! WAH!!!!!
The Hubby bought Cailey and Colin early Birthday presents. Parakeets!! Cailey and Colin went crazy over them! They carry them all over the house! LOL The birds ride on their shoulders, heads and toys!
Colin’s is the green one. He named him Steve. Cailey’s is the white one, Coraline.
The cats are very fond of them, too……
I turned the big 0-4. 😉 Yes, I will be switching the numbers around for a couple of years. Hey, it makes me feel better! Don’t judge! 😉
I got a new sewing machine!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!! I have been playing with it and I am in LOOOOOOVE with it!! It’s a lot more quiet than my old one and it sews soooo well! There are so many more functions, too! I sat and played with it for a loooong time!!
I pushed and crammed and maneuvered until I made a space for some of my fabric. I left the winter weights and seasonals in the box.
You know what that means, right??? New tutorials will be coming soon!!! I’m thinking the first one will be for a sewing machine cover! LOL
Colin’s Birthday is 31st but we will be celebrating it this weekend!

Colin has a new found love of Babybel Cheese. He also likes using the net on his head. He looks like a lunch lady!

We have gone through about 5 electric can openers in the past couple of years. Instead of buying yet another one I got a manual can opener instead. I left it out and asked Deanna to open some cans for me. Hee hee hee hee!! It took her FOREVER to figure out how it works!

We’ve been studying butterflies this month and having a lot of fun (for more on the butterflies click HERE ).
When they finished making their chrysalides , their butts were hanging out. Completely freaked Colin out.
Colin – EWWW!! They lost their butts!! Their BUTTS!!!!!!!

We are doing our normal, weekly shopping at Kroger. We have the normal, usual 2 buggies full.
I am trying to make the bagger understand that he doesn’t have to try to fit everything into one buggy because it’s just not going to work.
The cashier pipes up and gets him to listen. He then turns to me and says, “What is this, like a month’s worth?”
Me – Umm… No, it’s like a week’s worth…..
The look on his face was PRICELESS. It never gets old… LOL

We did a bunch of crafts on Monday for St. Patrick’s Day.
3 D Shamrocks – tutorial HERE
We made leprechaun houses out of the boxes I won from Pick Your Plum.
I had to make finger paint… All of our paint brushes are missing!!!
I used 1 cup of flour and added water until I liked the consistency. Then I added a few drops of green food coloring.
Tissue paper shamrocks.
We read Magic Tree House : Leprechauns and Irish Folklore : Research Guide.
Then I asked Cailey and Colin to pick their favorite fairy and draw it.
And that is what we had for breakfast! Green orange juice and green pancakes! The kids LOVED them!!!
