Apron Skirt Tutorial

Apron skirt 1

This is such a simple and easy little skirt to make. I wanted to do something different than just a bunch of plain skirts for Skirting the Issue and this is one of them that I decided on.

I used about a 1/2 yard for the skirt and maybe an 1/8 for the little apron. A fat quarter would be great!! 😉

Step 1 –

Apron skirt 007

Fold over the edges on 3 side by a 1/4″, press and fold them again by 1/2″

Then  stitch them in place.

PRESS again!

Step 2 –

Apron skirt 008

Next  cut out a heart from the main fabric, just like cutting a heart from paper. 😉

Then  pin it within an inch of its life and zigzag it all around.

PRESS!!

Step 3 –

Apron skirt 014

Set the little apron aside and fold and press your hem. Fold and press 1/2 ” and then again by 3/4″.

Then  stitch it in place and press again!

Step 4 –

Apron skirt 018

Now, pin the apron to the skirt, wrong side of apron to right side of skirt.

Sew a line of stitches across the top to secure the 2 pieces together.

Step 5 –

Apron skirt 016

Next, pin and sew your back seam.

Press it.

Step 6 –

Now, you are going to make your elastic casing.

Fold over the top of the skirt by 3/4″ and press. Then fold it over by 1″ and press.

Sew the casing but make sure to leave an opening to insert the elastic.

Pin one (or both ends) of the elastic with a large safety pin and thread it through the casing.

Sew the ends of the elastic together.

Sew the casing closed.

You are now DONE!!!!!!

Sit back and admire your pretty little appliqued apron skirt! 😉

HAPPY SEWING!

Sewing Pajamas!

pajamas 009

While Joe and Lisa were visiting they decided to have me do a little sewing! 😉 Their granddaughter has a birthday coming up and they wanted me to make her some pajamas. Lisa picked out the little monkeys from my stash and then picked this pattern –

Simplicity 1925  (Pssst!! It’s on sale for $3.99!!!)

The pattern calls for wovens but I think the knit worked just fine. 😉

While we were out running around Joe asked me if I could make him some new pajama shorts and of course I said YES!! LOL

He picked out some flannel and wanted to get enough for me to make Colin a matching pair. (Colin was sick.)

Here are Colin’s PJ shorts!

Right before our company arrived, I finished another skirt for Skirting the Issue.

I think this is my favorite so far.

I have fabric draped over the back of my sewing chair just waiting to be turned into more skirts!! YAY!!!

HAVE FUN SEWING!!!!!

Chest of Drawers Redo Reveal

Chest of drawers redo 003

I had painted this chest of drawers black a couple of years ago. I wish I had a picture of it in its original state. You wouldn’t believe the difference! LOL

Chest of Drawers Make Over 003

Can I just say that I LOOOOOVE LOOOOOVE LOOOOOVE the way it turned out!!! It’s just the way I wanted it!! YAY!!!

I used the exact same paints and stuff that I used for the Door to Headboard Upcycle.

When I painted the dresser black, I just painted right over the pulls. This time I took them off and painted them blue.

I also made 2 skirts for Skirting the Issue! 🙂

Skirting the Issue 2013 004

Deanna has been very adamant that I should make things for older girls. I made this skirt for a teen girl. She was very pleased. 😉

Skirting the Issue 2013 006

This is the other one I made. It’s such a sweet print.

I am nearly out of donated fabric, which, if you think about it, it a WONDERFUL thing!! It means that the lives of so many children have been touched!!! YAY!!!!! Isn’t that AWESOME??? Everyone that donated fabric has touched the lives of children all over the WORLD! Not just the US but South Africa, too!!! YAY for you!!!! 😀

We are going to have company today!! YAY!! Some friends that we’ve had for 12 years (or so) are coming to visit with us for a few days! I can’t wait to see them!! So, if I’m a little quieter than normal, you know why! LOL

HAVE FUN SEWING, CRAFTING or SCHOOLING! 😉

Will You Sew Along??

It’s almost time for Skirting the Issue!!!  I can’t wait!!! I do believe that this was the very first sew along where I was a participant.

It is always such a blessing to me to be able to serve others through sewing. It brings me such joy to know that I can touch a child’s life. With Skirting the Issue, the skirts (or shorts) will go to children in foster care of all ages. There will also be other ideas of where you can donate your sewn items.

I also have some news of my own…… JACOB IS HOME!!!! He moved back in this week. I can’t tell you how THRILLED I am to have him home. It has been like a knife in my heart since last November.

We have also been having TONS of company and having TONS of fun!!!

This past week we went to the Smokies to enjoy some time with my dad and stepmother. We stayed at a cabin in the woods and went to the Ripley’s Aquarium and NASCAR Speedway (a small amusement park). We all had a BLAST!!! I will be posting pictures from our trip very soon. I think I took around 300! LOL It takes a lot of time to go through them all….. 😉

Next week we have company coming for the 4th! YIPPPEEE!!!

ANYWAY, I really hope that you will all consider sewing along with Skirting the Issue.

Before I get started, I will be making Colin a few items AND redoing our chest of drawers to match the headboard. 😉

HAVE FUN SEWING!!!!
