Top 10 Homeschool Posts

000000 AAAA TOP 10

Since we are now done for the year I thought I would post my top ten viewed homeschooling posts! As I plan for next year I will be adding more. That should be coming up sooner than I want to think about! LOL

My homeschool posts don’t have nearly as many views as my tutorials. That’s OK. I don’t mind… MUCH! LOL At least I will always know where all the info is located. Much easier for me to find if when we revisit certain topics. ;)

Speaking of view numbers, I’m not sure why but my views have done down DRASTICALLY!! I used to get 10 times the views I get these days. I guess the 2 moves took a toll. :/ I need to pick up on my tutorials, I think might be the biggest difference. LOL But no matter. Even if I only got 1 view a day, I would still blog. ;)

So I was looking through my blog stats the other day (bloggers just LOVE their stats) and I noticed that there were a few that were obvious favorites. I thought that it might be nice to do a little countdown of my top 10 posts. Not surprising in the least, they are all tutorials! LOL

One view = one different person

Next up (and last for the Sewing to Rebuild) will be another boy’s set.

After that I will be getting busy sewing for MY kids. LOL Colin has been complaining that it has been too long since I made him something. It will be a part of Hopeful Threads June sewing project.

Hopeful Threads

I have some really cute knit that I have been thinking about making into PJs for Colin and a nightgown for Cailey. Colin also needs some new shorts! Then I think I will break out some patterns that I have been meaning to get to.

HAVE FUN SEWING!!! :D

I have finished my 4th set to send to Oklahoma!! YAY!!! 2 girl sets and 2 boy sets, one more each and I will be done. :D

Here are the pieces that go with yesterday’s shark toy.

Sharky Stuffed Toy 14

I was going to stay away from making the sets matchy-matchy but I just had to with this fabric theme! LOL And the fabric is so soft. I think it’s interlock knit.

I have been having so much fun SEWING!!!

Colin says to me today, “Mommy you never sew for ME anymore.” Well, it looks like I will have to follow Kristy’s lead from Hopeful Threads. This month’s theme is Summer Sewing for the Family!! I need to get some projects together for my Cs. ;)

OH! Cailey wanted me to show you her nature finds! LOL

Cailey's Nature Finds

The Hubby is identifying them for her as I type. LOL Not too bad for living in the city with a TINY yard.

Sharky Stuffed Toy 1

I wanted to make a stuffed shark out of that cute shark knit for Sewing to Rebuild,  BUT I was a little intimidated by the free patterns I found. SOOO many pieces!! They all looked very complicated. Seeing as how I am so new to sewing stuffed toys, I thought I would try my hand at making my own pattern and that is what I came up with. Only 4 pieces total and very simple. Easy peasy!! ;)

Click Shark Stuffed Toy Pattern 1 and Shark Stuffed Toy Pattern 2  for the pattern!! (Hopefully the PDF will pop up like it’s supposed to…)

After you print, cut and tape your pattern these will be the steps to sewing.

STEP 1

Sharky Stuffed Toy 2

Cut your pieces. This is what they will look like.

STEP 2

Sew your fin together, right sides together, leaving the bottom open.

STEP 3

Sharky Stuffed Toy 3

Cut the slit for your fin.

STEP 4

Sharky Stuffed Toy 6

Turn the fin right side out. Insert it into the slit in the top of the shark body. Pin it in place and very slowly sew the bottom of the fin to the sides of the slit in the shark.  The fin will be open for the stuffing.

You COULD stuff the fin and then sew it into the slit. Whichever is easier for you to do.

Sharky Stuffed Toy 8

This is what it will look like when you are done.

STEP 6

Sharky Stuffed Toy 10

Pin the fin out of the way. Now, pin the shark body pieces with right sides together. Sew the pieces, making sure to leave an opening for the stuffing.

STEP 7

Sharky Stuffed Toy 13

Turn it right side out, stuff and sew the opening closed!! :)

Now you are all done!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharky Stuffed Toy 14

Let me know what you think!! Are the steps easy to follow??

I am still doing Sewing to Rebuild! :) My latest project was Hannah’s Pillowcase Bubble Romper from Create Kids Couture. The pattern can be found free for a short time on Fabric.com.

Sewing to Rebuild 5011

This was a super easy, super fast pattern to do. I was able to make it in just a couple of hours.

Now I am going to have to make Cailey one!! LOL The pattern only goes up to a size 6 but I already sized it up to an 8 for her. ;)

I decided to leave off the sash. It looks more comfy this way. ;)

I now have 3 complete sets to send. I need 3 more!!! :D I am going to be sewing up a storm this weekend!!!

Next up, a bag, PJ pants and a toy for a little boy!!

HAVE FUN SEWING!!!!!

What is your oldest piece of clothing, does it still fit, and why do you still have it?

It was submitted by: The Most Awesome, the Queen of Secret Subjects and Flies…..  Karen from Baking in a Tornado

At first I was stumped. I have been pregnant 5 TIMES!! My weight has been up and down and up and down. I change sizes more than the kids change channels… Then I thought, well, I have some shoes I’ve had for a while. But even those I give away after a few years…. Hmmm… Then it hit me. There’s one item of clothing that I have had for 20 YEARS!! Yes! 20 YEARS!!!!

Mountaineers 006

My WVU Mountaineers Football jersey!!!! It still fits (just not as loosely as it once did) and I wear it a ton during football season. ;)

This jersey has seen some up and downs… Some wins and some loses….. Some players and coaches come and go…. It has seen A LOT!!!

Hmmm… maybe IT should do the Fly on the Wall. LOL

Speaking of gaining and losing weight (I think this fits with the topic). I have been back on the Atkins Diet for 2 wks now and I am down 9 lbs!!! YIPPPPEEE!!!!!!!

I am done with the meds that make me gain weight. I am done with the birth control methods that make me gain weight. I am done with eating my feelings!!!!  I am taking control of my body again!!! I managed to have 3 kids without adding more than 10 lbs. After I had Deanna I was on the Depo Provera shots for a year. I gained more in that year than I ever did while pregnant with the kids. I went off it after that. It had completely messed up my system and doctors thought that I would never be able to get pregnant again. HA! Thankfully they were wrong! 7 years later I had Cailey. After I had her I went on Atkins and lost 45 lbs in 3 months. I managed to keep it all off until I got pregnant with Colin. Now, I had my tubes tied AFTER having Cailey. No, I didn’t have it reversed…. So, after I had Colin, it would have been a more intense surgery for them to try to tie them again. Instead of going through all of that I used the Mirena….. BIG MISTAKE!!!! It happens that anything that disrupts my monthly… ummm… visitor, also makes me gain weight. Fun. Add on top of that the fibromyalgia, depression, and medications and you have a major weight gain.  More fun… I’m not nearly brave enough to say just how much weight I gained… Maybe one day once I can put all of  this behind me… I am still entirely too vain to put it out there. LOL But I’m trying very hard and it’s a lot of work. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that it isn’t. It’s an uphill battle all the way.  I don’t know if this will ultimately have anything to do with the fibro but it sure couldn’t hurt.

Wish me luck!! Send prayers!!!

Shew! It feels good to get some of that off my chest. ;)

Now for some smiles to lighten the mood!

Sew Busy Sewing

SHEW!!! I took a break from sewing yesterday. It was just one of those days. Fibro.

Here is what I have so far on the next set for Sewing to Rebuild.

Sewing to Rebuild 3005

Sewing to Rebuild 3007

For the little rabbit, I used a template from Crafty Cupboard.   It was very easy to make. I think I might need to make a bunch in spring prints for Easter decorations!! LOL

The only thing this set needs now is an outfit. I am thinking about making the Sunshine Days outfit in pink.  I hope to get started on it today after I get all my errands done.

Look what we say the other day!!

Rainbow 001

I wish the photo would show how bright and beautiful this was!! It was just behind our neighbor’s house across the street.

Hope you are having fun sewing!!! :D

Vintage Coolness

I have reallllly been hating on my kitchen lately. It’s a VERY VERY VERY bright green. At first I thought THAT was the problem. Now, I’m not so sure. I think it might just be that the curtains in there are AWFUL with the bright green. So, I’ve been thinking about making over the kitchen without painting it.

I have some green gingham and some bright white fabric that will make very cute curtains (and will MATCH). Then I started thinking about how to style the kitchen. I was thinking about my bathroom as well. I think it’s a special bathroom that still has it’s original 1920′s feel with claw foot tub and stained glass (faux) window. I need to work WITH that. ;)

As I was perusing Pinterest I came upon a ton of vintage ads. PERFECT!!!! I am thinking about printing some of them out and using them in the kitchen and bathroom.  I have a couple of Norman Rockwell prints already and I am going to use those, too.

Here are a few that caught my eye.

These are just a few that I am thinking about using.

I am probably going to use vintage ads/prints throughout the hallways, as well. Might as well make a thing of it! ;)

Once I get the kitchen done (after the Sewing to Rebuild) I will take some pictures and show you what I come up with!

In sewing news, I am humming right along. I have another bag and toy made. Today I will be working on the clothing to go with them! I will be showing you all of them tomorrow!
