McCall’s 6467 and Lobsters

Here’s the latest picture of the McCall’s 6467!

I just need to add the sleeves and figure out how to finish it off. I am all out of the lace hem tape so I am thinking about using some white bias tape instead. I think I have enough of it.

I have actually sewn a stitch today. All that was was done last night.

HERE is what I have been doing today! πŸ˜‰

2 applications each of 50 SPF and we are ALL still as red as lobsters. SIGH… I knew I should have gotten the 100 SPF!! :/

We went out last night and bought the pool!! Then we called the water guy this morning to come out and deliver the water!! And then we spent 5 hours in the pool. LOL I am SOOOO tired and SOOOOOO red!!! LOL I think I could go to sleep now and not wake up for a week!!

Anything exciting going on in your world?? Any cool new sewing projects??

Retro Butterick ’47 Is DONE!!!!

YAY!! It’s all done! πŸ™‚ Well, I think I need to add a couple of snaps above the zipper, but other than that, IT’S DONE! πŸ™‚

As you can see, there’s a bit of a gap over on my left side where the zipper is located. I’ll just add a couple of snaps there above the zipper and it’ll be just right! πŸ™‚

Apparently this is pattern is very flattering for my body type. As soon as I came downstairs d said, “Ooh! It makes you look thinner!” I may need to make 10 or 100 more from this pattern. πŸ˜‰

Check out those shoes!! Those are the pair that I got FREE from Sears for using my reward points!! YAY!!

Here’s a back view of the Retro Butterick ’47 B5209

The dress is a little bunchy in the back but that’s due to me being so short-waisted! LOL

So, there’s another vintage/retro pattern to mark as done! YAY!

Next up will be my purse. And if things go well I’ll be posting a tutorial for that tonight or tomorrow. Wish me luck! πŸ˜‰

Here are the fabrics I’ll be using.

I had a lovely navy blue that I wanted to use but it picked up SOOOOO much lint that I decided not to use it! The blue here is what is left over from the What a Hoot skirtΒ and the gold and cream is what I won from Handmade by Hilani. I’m a little nervous about this… I have never made a purse before and I don’t think it will be as simple as d’s bag…. But I’m gonna try! πŸ˜‰

I think after the purse and tops for me I will make some play clothes for the cs. I’ll be sure to post tutorials when I do!

Retro Butterick ’47 Is ALMOST Done!

YAY!!! Just the zipper, hemming and pressing left to be done! πŸ™‚ I hate putting in the zipper. Without a zipper foot it’s a NIGHTMARE of pinning, sewing and ripping, pinning, sewing and ripping…. SIGH…. I really need to remember to get one next time I’m near Joann’s or Hancocks.

The pattern has been SUPER easy to follow and so far the fit is excellent since I went down 2 sizes on the bodice… LOL

Anyway, I should finish that up this evening!! Then I will be making myself a purse! πŸ™‚ YAY!! I really need a new one for summer! I’ll be putting up a tutorial for that if everything goes well… LOL You never know… πŸ˜‰

After that I think I might have to try one of the vintage patterns Mrs. H gave me. Maybe the blouse…

Misses Blouse & Skirt Butterick See & Sew Sewing Pattern 5133 (Size B: 14-16-18)

See & Sew 5133

I really need some more tops! OH!! And I want to try this one, too!!

McCall’s M6467

And I still have some retro/vintage rereleases that I HAVE to do!! LOL

We didn’t have church today. We had more violent storms come through last night and they knocked out the power at the church. Too bad the storms didn’t cool us off. It’s still hotter than HECK out there. I hate summer…. I reallllly, reallllllllly do. Give me snow!! LOL

So, what are YOU working on??

Retro Butterick ’53 5708 Is DONE!!!

Well… I guess it turned out OK. I am NOT crazy about the fit in the shoulders. I am not a linebacker, people.. LOL I maybe have a little extra (OK, A LOT extra) fluff to me but it’s not in my shoulders! LOL Well, maybe a little bit but not THAT much. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, the pattern was extremely easy. Easy to follow, easy to sew, easy all the way around. If you are looking for a retro pattern to start with this would be the one I suggest. The bodice is fully lined so it makes it much easier. No rolled hems! πŸ˜‰ Β The fit is great everywhere (EXCEPT THE SHOULDERS).

I really like the fabric I used. I like the way it feels and they way it “took”, if you know what I mean… LOL Β I will definitely be making this one again in the future. And next time I will know to add a couple of darts! πŸ˜‰

I wish the pictures would show the colors better. :/ That yellow is awesome with the red flower detail!! LOL

Here, this shows the fabric better –

And here is the dress actually on me. (Cringing at pictures of myself.)

Yep, I have the ARMS of a linebacker, just not the shoulders. LOL!!

Snot!! She didn’t get my shoes in the shot!! I got them FREE from Sears and I ❀ them!!!

Tonight I will be working on something for c1. I have no idea what to call it… Maybe a skort all??? Just a skort? A dress/skort with a vintage feel?? Maybe you can help me with the name tomorrow. I’ll be putting up a tutorial for it. πŸ˜‰

This is fabric I’ll be using-

I hope it turns out the way I have it in my mind…. LOL

And that the cats leave me in peace… SNORT! That will never happen! Who am I trying to kid?????

So, what are YOU working on??? Leave me a comment!

A Great Big OOOPSY!! and Retro Butterick ’53

Well, I had an oopsy. Yep. SIGH….. So I was cutting out the fabric for this –

Retro Butterick Β B5708

when I made a HUGE mistake…. I was off in my own little world (they know me and are nice to me there), not paying much attention…. It was late last night. VERY late….. Well, you see…. I cut it out in the wrong order! WAH!!!! So when it came time to cut the 2 upper bodice pieces I didn’t have the right dimensions for it! WAH!!!

Here is the fabric –

I got it on clearance at Hancock’s. I bought the LAST that they had that day. I went back today just in case. Nope. Nothing. SIGH…. So I bought a yard of butter yellow to match a remnant of butter yellow that I already had…. Hoping that will do. If not I guess I will go back again tomorrow! LOL Good news is, I am going back tomorrow anyway. When I was there today I noticed a 1/2 off sign over everything including the clearance tables. So I asked. LOL The lady said that tomorrow will be 1/2 off everything in the store CLEARANCE included!! I saw some REALLLLLY nice looking fabric that had a very vintage feel to it. πŸ™‚ YAY!! LOL So I guess my OOPS might turn out OK… I hope the dress works with a solid color upper bodice. View B calls for a contrasting BACK upper so maybe…..

In other news. I have hit over 300 views today!! YAY!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! When I started sewing just over 3 months ago I never thought I would be here today blogging about it. And when I started the blog 3 1/2 weeks ago I never thought I would hit that many views that quickly. I’m hoping that means that you like me! πŸ˜‰ Or at least like my sewing! LOL Or maybe it’s my witty repartee? LOL Goofy pics??

I might have to think up a contest for if I ever hit 500 views in a day!

I have a really cute idea in my head for a ’60s style dress for c1…. After the Retro Butterick ’53 I will start on it. You know what that means!! Another tutorial. I would like to post at least one a week. Well, maybe not next week. We start VBS and I will be teaching the 4/5s. Help… πŸ˜‰ So I will be going in early and leaving there late.

TA DA!!!!! McCall’s M4769 Is DONE!!!

And here I am wearing the dress. Excuse the lack of face… I was having a bad face day. πŸ˜‰Image

Here’s a close up of the buttons (which I <3).

SHEW!! It feels SOOOOOOOOOOOO good to have that done! πŸ™‚ As you can tell I made some adjustments from the original pattern…. No collar or lapel and I added the bias tape. It made the dress a tad bit too roomy in the neck but I think I can fix that.

I think the adjustments make it look even MORE vintage than the original. It’s definitely giving me a 50’s feel

Here’s a pic of the original pattern.

I know I said I was going to make this

Easy (HA! Not THAT easy) McCall’s M6197

out of this

But I feel the need to go with simple for a bit. All the sick kids and sick Hubby…. Now I am starting to get a sore throat! YILES!!! So I will be keeping it simple for the next few days. And I REALLLLY need to get my VBS lessons down. I volunteered to teach the 4/5’s this year… I’m a little afraid…. The enthusiasm I received when I said I would take that age group fell only slightly short of a standing ovation… Yeah.. A little afraid… I think they know something I don’t… LOL

So….I will be making this instead.

I’ll be making the blue dress only in sparkly pink knit!! πŸ™‚ LOVE PINK!! It’s Easy (YAY!!!) McCall’s M6074.

And for the kiddos I will go with pillowcase dresses for c1 and a pair of pillowcase shorts for c2 using these….

I LOVE the details of that one. Here’s a close up! πŸ˜‰

And for c2’s shorts…

What have YOU been up to??? Share in the comments section so I can check it out!!!

Easy McCall’s M5135

Yep, I’ve been playing with PicMonkey… LOL

Easy is right! LOL It was SUPER easy! Very easy to follow instructions and the pieces went together very well. Except the sleeves… Now, that was probably my fault since I lined the top and it called for bias tape…. Oh, well, I like the lace ties and so does c1! πŸ˜‰

BUT I am not that crazy about the gauchos… I’m thinking I should have chosen a less busy print for THAT MUCH pant…. LOL Live and learn… LIVE and LEARN! πŸ˜‰

If I were to rate this one I would give it 5 of 5. It was simple and easy. The only issue I had (besides the sleeves) was that the pattern ink was soooo faded that I could barely make it out in some parts. And I bought it brand new! :/ Not sure what was going on there. If it had been a harder pattern that really could have made a big impact.

Today’s my busy day. Pay bills (BLECK) and do the main grocery shopping. Fun, exciting stuff there… Yawn. I also started a swap game over at PaperbackSwap. If you have’t stopped in to check the site out, you really should. They have TONS and TONS of books. Even books about crafting and sewing! And if you are a homeschooler PBS is a DREAM resource! I have even found Abeka there! Yes! And Saxon math!!! Seriously!!!

Today is also the day I start on THIS!!! πŸ™‚

Still a little scared of it, though… ALL those buttons and that collar!! YILES!!!! Heaven help me!

But after that, maybe this??? It looks simple and easy. And yes, it says EASY on the pattern! LOL

McCall’s M6313 – thinking about the dress……..

With this fabric????

Not sure…. What do YOU think???

And somewhere along the way I REALLLLLY need to make those purses and pjs….. LOL

I’ve also been thinking about making another gingham jumpsuit but in green this time! πŸ˜‰

YAY!! McCall’s M6544

OH!! It turned out SOOOOOO lovely!! I made a couple of adjustments to the pattern and I LOVE how it turned out!!

Check out the pockets!

I think adding the eyelet was a good move.

Here’s what the pattern views look like.

I made the view that the little girl is wearing, view C. Β But I added the waist band and made the ruffle longer. The pattern calls for using the seam allowance for the elastic casing but I didn’t leave enough for that to be possible! LOL But I like it better with the eyelet anyway. πŸ˜‰ I left off the little bow in the front. I didn’t think it needed it and if I added one I think I would go with one the same as the pockets.

Here is what the back looks like.

Line Art

The only view that calls for contrast is D. I think that’s a mistake. The contrast works so much better, especially with the gingham. πŸ˜‰

Over all it was a VERY easy pattern to follow, not confusing in the least. It was fairly quick to put together. I cut it all out the night before last and started sewing it yesterday afternoon with SEVERAL long breaks! LOL If I were to rate the pattern I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. If they added contrast for all views, left off or adjusted the front bow and had the casing for the middle elastic the way *I* did it πŸ˜‰ I would give it 5 out of 5. LOL Small things but I think they make a difference. πŸ˜‰ I will definitely be making this again and trying all the views.

Today I will start on this.

Even though I REALLLLLLLY want to start THIS!! LOL

I am a little intimidated by this one, though…. I have only done buttons once and have never tried a collar like that. Hopefully it won’t be too hard to follow and I can learn! πŸ˜‰

Is it just me or do you think that a lot of patterns are looking more retro or vintage?? Both of the patterns for c1 look very 70’s to me. LOL Well, I like it and hope it continues! πŸ˜‰
