It’s TIME!!! Time to ring out the old and bring in the new! 😀 Don’t you just love New Year’s?? You can kiss the mistakes of the last year goodbye and welcome a clean slate.

As I’ve said before, I never make resolutions. No way am I setting myself up for failure from the get go. 😉 BUT here are some of the things that I want to do more of in the new year.

SEWING –  It’s been 2 LOOOOONG months since I have sat at my sewing machine. That’s 2 months too long. I have GOT to figure out a way to unpack my sewing stuff in this tiny house!! We are only supposed to be here a few months (until the rental agent finds us a bigger place) but I am going through some heavy withdrawals already!!! LOL

CRAFTING – It has been forever since I made anything. ARGH!!!! I need my creative outlets!! I’ll go starkers!!!

READING –  I used to set myself reading challenges at the beginning of each year. It’s been a couple of years since I have done that. Just not enough time. SIGH…. BUT I am planning a couple of different challenges for 2014. One is the Alphabet Soup Challenge made by Escape With Dollycas Into a Good Book.  You can check my page for it out HERE.

The other challenge is to read 100 books. That used to be NOTHING to me. I could read 3 books a week. AHHH, those were the days.

I’ll be keeping up with that challenge over at Goodreads. You can click the Goodreads widget over on the right side. I think it will take you to my books.

Now, on to the Top 10 Posts of 2013!!!

Early American Settlers Study Unit

Pilgrims

Our next history unit on the list is early American settlers. I will be including resources for Jamestown, Roanoke and Plymouth. I wanted to include St. Augustine but I had a realllllly hard time finding any resources. :/ I guess we will have to use Wikipedia (YILES).

I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to make up notebooking pages for this unit. Fortunately, there are TONS of freebies to be had for Jamestown and Plymouth, not so much for Roanoke. If I have time before we actually DO this study I will make some and add them here. 😉

As always, I include resources for a variety of ages. All books can be found at your local library, on Amazon or Paperback Swap (you should really check out this link).

All printable resources are free unless marked with $$$.

SHEW!!! It took me a long time to put all of this together! So glad to make it to the end!! LOL

We will be exploring the difference in colonies. The difference in WHY and HOW they were established.  We may even try to recreate them somehow… MAYBE…. 😉

Later on I will be making a unit study on Thanksgiving, so I didn’t include any resources in THIS study.

I hope this helps! 😀

Native American Unit Study (with free notebooking pages)

_Native American Unit Study graphic

(graphic – The Graphics Fairy)

The next in line that I’m planning for is Native Americans. We *might* diverge from our path and study this around Thanksgiving. Maybe….

Our study will focus on BEFORE the discovery of America and just after. Later on when we study the westward expansion, we will study more about Native Americans.

Taking Requests

Since I have been posting units WAY ahead of when we will actually use them and since I had a friend request a theme yesterday, I thought that I would put the request out there! Do you have a theme or unit that you would like some help with??? I am ready to help you out to the best of my ability! Need some notebooking pages? I can make them (I’m getting MUCH better, I promise).

So, what do you need??? Just comment or use the Contact Me button and shoot me an email!

I am always more than happy to help someone out in whatever way I can.

Have any homeschooling questions? Ask me! If I don’t know the answer, I’ll try to find it! 😉

Here are some units that I am working on now –

Simple Machines (tomorrow)

Fireflies (day after tomorrow)

India

Native Americans

I’ve also been thinking about put up a syllabus of sorts for some of the older kids’ courses this year. Both Deanna and Joshua want to take History of Science. Yep, I’ll be making that one up. LOL I’ve already started a list. Mostly we will be focusing on the scientists from different time periods and their contributions.

Joshua wants to do military history, another off one. 😉 I’ll be working on that as well. He has done some military history in the past but….. Well, some of the kids slacked a bit last year. I don’t blame them. It was definitely a crazy year! But that means that they will be carrying some classes over. No biggie.

I am definitely more of a laid back homeschooler.  I am not what you might call an unschooler, but I am fairly close. 😉

I am NOT a lover of text books… My kids do use them to some extent, mostly for math. I like to do research and I like for them to go deeper into subjects than text books usually go. So, that is why I make most of my own stuff. We use a lot of notebooking, sometimes made by me, and lapbooks, sometimes made by me.

So, any requests??? Any questions???

Pirate Unit Study with FREE Printables!

(graphic – The Graphics Fairy)

I am still planning away and I still have TONS to do. I have barely scratched the surface with Joshua and Deanna! YILES!!! Cailey’s is maybe 1/4 done and Colin’s is more than 1/2. With Colin I plan on using Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool for math and reading. For science, history, geography and animal studies, he will be following along with Cailey.

After I get some more concrete ideas for Joshua and Deanna, I will share them here. Joshua is going into his senior year and Deanna is going into her junior year. My goodness!!! These kids grow up so fast!! MAKE THEM STOP!!!!

Here are the things I have found for a study of pirates. Most things are free and the books can be found at your local library, Amazon or Paperback Swap.

I try to provide resources for a variety of ages. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s not! 😉

For this study I made some notebooking pages. All the graphics used were free. I used to make notebooking pages for the kids all the time but I sort of got away from it for a while.
