Never Cut Your Patterns AGAIN!!!

Have you ever had a pattern that you thought you would use more than once and for different sizes??? Well, I have found a simple solution to NOT cutting the pattern!!

When I was making the monkey pajamas for my friend Lisa’s granddaughter, I knew that I was going to use that pattern again later for Cailey. Lisa’s granddaughter needed the smallest size and Cailey would use the largest size. What to do????

Here is my idea.

Patterns 001

Iron out your pattern (not like the picture LOL). Place it over ironed paper and put down paper weights (I usually use my owl figurines). ย Take a Sharpie (or other marker) and trace the pattern lines.

Patterns 003

The marker will bleed through the pattern tissue and leave very good markings on your paper.

I used left over packing paper but you can use any kind. If you need bigger pieces than what you have, just tape them together on the back. Dollar Tree used to sell brown paper for packages, that would be perfect!

Patterns 006

Write the number on each piece and any of the instructions you think you will need. I am going to go back and write the pattern name and the size on these so I will remember. ๐Ÿ˜‰

There you go! Never cut into a pattern again!

Apron Skirt Tutorial

Apron skirt 1

This is such a simple and easy little skirt to make. I wanted to do something different than just a bunch of plain skirts for Skirting the Issue and this is one of them that I decided on.

I used about a 1/2 yard for the skirt and maybe an 1/8 for the little apron. A fat quarter would be great!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Step 1 –ย

Apron skirt 007

Fold over the edges on 3 side by a 1/4″, press and fold them again by 1/2″

Then ย stitch them in place.

PRESS again!

Step 2 –ย

Apron skirt 008

Next ย cut out a heart from the main fabric, just like cutting a heart from paper. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then ย pin it within an inch of its life and zigzag it all around.

PRESS!!

Step 3 –

Apron skirt 014

Set the little apron aside and fold and press your hem. Fold and press 1/2 ” and then again by 3/4″.

Then ย stitch it in place and press again!

Step 4 –ย

Apron skirt 018

Now, pin the apron to the skirt, wrong side of apron to right side of skirt.

Sew a line of stitches across the top to secure the 2 pieces together.

Step 5 –

Apron skirt 016

Next, pin and sew your back seam.

Press it.

Step 6 –

Apron skirt 021

Now, you are going to make your elastic casing.

Fold over the top of the skirt by 3/4″ and press. Then fold it over by 1″ and press.

Sew the casing but make sure to leave an opening to insert the elastic.

Pin one (or both ends) of the elastic with a large safety pin and thread it through the casing.

Sew the ends of the elastic together.

Sew the casing closed.

You are now DONE!!!!!!

Sit back and admire your pretty little appliqued apron skirt! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Colin’s Madras Shorts

Colin's Shorts 004

It is SOOOOOO hard to get pictures of Colin sometimes. Especially when it has to do with clothes…. LOL He just doesn’t stand still for long. I end up taking more than 20 pictures and very rarely get the “perfect” shot. LOL

I made these shorts for him the same way I always make shorts and pants. Just use the search bar on the right side if you would like a tutorial.

The only difference is in the way I did the pockets. I cut them on the bias and left the edges raw. ๐Ÿ™‚

Colin's Shorts 006 Colin's Shorts 012

He LOVES them!!! They are so nice and cool! Perfect for the summer IF it ever stops raining!!!!! LOL

Today I will be back to skirt sewing for Skirting the Issue!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sewing Pajamas!

pajamas 009

While Joe and Lisa were visiting they decided to have me do a little sewing! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Their granddaughter has a birthday coming up and they wanted me to make her some pajamas. Lisa picked out the little monkeys from my stash and then picked this pattern –

Simplicity 1925ย  (Pssst!! It’s on sale for $3.99!!!)

The pattern calls for wovens but I think the knit worked just fine. ๐Ÿ˜‰

While we were out running around Joe asked me if I could make him some new pajama shorts and of course I said YES!! LOL

He picked out some flannel and wanted to get enough for me to make Colin a matching pair. (Colin was sick.)

Here are Colin’s PJ shorts!

Right before our company arrived, I finished another skirt for Skirting the Issue.

I think this is my favorite so far.

I have fabric draped over the back of my sewing chair just waiting to be turned into more skirts!! YAY!!!

Chest of Drawers Redo Reveal

Chest of drawers redo 003

I had painted this chest of drawers black a couple of years ago. I wish I had a picture of it in its original state. You wouldn’t believe the difference! LOL

Chest of Drawers Make Over 003

Can I just say that I LOOOOOVE LOOOOOVE LOOOOOVE the way it turned out!!! It’s just the way I wanted it!! YAY!!!

I used the exact same paints and stuff that I used for the Door to Headboard Upcycle.

When I painted the dresser black, I just painted right over the pulls. This time I took them off and painted them blue.

I also made 2 skirts for Skirting the Issue! ๐Ÿ™‚

Skirting the Issue 2013 004

Deanna has been very adamant that I should make things for older girls. I made this skirt for a teen girl. She was very pleased. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Skirting the Issue 2013 006

This is the other one I made. It’s such a sweet print.

I am nearly out of donated fabric, which, if you think about it, it a WONDERFUL thing!! It means that the lives of so many children have been touched!!! YAY!!!!! Isn’t that AWESOME??? Everyone that donated fabric has touched the lives of children all over the WORLD! Not just the US but South Africa, too!!! YAY for you!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

We are going to have company today!! YAY!! Some friends that we’ve had for 12 years (or so) are coming to visit with us for a few days! I can’t wait to see them!! So, if I’m a little quieter than normal, you know why! LOL

HAVE FUN SEWING, CRAFTING or SCHOOLING! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Colin’s Mushroom PJs and Chalk Fun

Summer Fun 008

Colin is a happy little fella with his new PJs. He has been begging me for a very long time to make them for him. Poor guy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I made them same way I did his dinosaur PJs. ย The only difference is that I made my own bias tape and did a lettuce hem at the bottom.

I bought 3 yards of that mushroom fabric when it was on clearance at Hancock’s. ย I was hoping to have enough to make Cailey and Deanna PJs out of it BUT it was way too narrow. I should still be able to make Cailey some, though. I’m thinking of a nightgown.

Cailey LOVES to draw. It’s probably her favorite thing in the world to do. Here are some of her chalk drawings.

Summer Fun 011 Summer Fun 014 Summer Fun 016 Summer Fun 019

She drew the entire cast of SpongeBob! LOL As a matter of fact, I need to go out and photograph the rest of them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today I will be starting on my chest of drawers redo. I SHOULD be able to post the finished project on Wednesday! ๐Ÿ™‚

Don’t forget to check out Skirting the Issueย over at Project Run & Play!!!

Will You Sew Along??

It’s almost time for Skirting the Issue!!! ย I can’t wait!!! I do believe that this was the very first sew along where I was a participant.

It is always such a blessing to me to be able to serve others through sewing. It brings me such joy to know that I can touch a child’s life. With Skirting the Issue, the skirts (or shorts) will go to children in foster care of all ages. There will also be other ideas of where you can donate your sewn items.

I also have some news of my own…… JACOB IS HOME!!!! He moved back in this week. I can’t tell you how THRILLED I am to have him home. It has been like a knife in my heart since last November.

We have also been having TONS of company and having TONS of fun!!!

This past week we went to the Smokies to enjoy some time with my dad and stepmother. We stayed at a cabin in the woods and went to the Ripley’s Aquarium and NASCAR Speedway (a small amusement park). We all had a BLAST!!! I will be posting pictures from our trip very soon. I think I took around 300! LOL It takes a lot of time to go through them all….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next week we have company coming for the 4th! YIPPPEEE!!!

ANYWAY, I really hope that you will all consider sewing along with Skirting the Issue.

Before I get started, I will be making Colin a few items AND redoing our chest of drawers to match the headboard. ๐Ÿ˜‰

HAVE FUN SEWING!!!!

After that I will be getting busy sewing for MY kids. LOL Colin has been complaining that it has been too long since I made him something. It will be a part of Hopeful Threads June sewing project.

Hopeful Threads

I have some really cute knit that I have been thinking about making into PJs for Colin and a nightgown for Cailey. Colin also needs some new shorts! Then I think I will break out some patterns that I have been meaning to get to.

I was going to stay away from making the sets matchy-matchy but I just had to with this fabric theme! LOL And the fabric is so soft. I think it’s interlock knit.

I have been having so much fun SEWING!!!

Colin says to me today, “Mommy you never sew for ME anymore.” Well, it looks like I will have to follow Kristy’s lead from Hopeful Threads. This month’s theme is Summer Sewing for the Family!! I need to get some projects together for my Cs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

OH! Cailey wanted me to show you her nature finds! LOL

Cailey's Nature Finds

The Hubby is identifying them for her as I type. LOL Not too bad for living in the city with a TINY yard.
