SquigglyTwigs Designs Pattern Tests AND My Signature Look

I was planning on creating a separate look for the Project Run & Play Signature Look Challenge BUT I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the pattern tests for SquigglyTwigs Designs Cute and Quick Pants and Peasant Blouse turned out so I will be entering them. 😉

I have very eclectic tastes and style.  Just like my preferences for reading, music and movies, they seem to be all over the place! I love modern, retro, vintage AND classic looks, so it’s sort of hard to pin down just one look to describe my signature style….

SquigglyTwigs Designs Pants and Peasant Blouse 006

I used SquigglyTwigs Designs Pretty Peasant Dress pattern for the tunic. I used the standard size 8 with added ruffle.

The capris are SquigglyTwigs Designs Cute and Quick Pants custom size 7 with added ruffles.

SquigglyTwigs Designs Pants and Peasant Blouse 012

If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you’ll know how much I LOOOOOOVE eyelet! I can’t get enough of it! LOL And I think it goes wonderfully with the 2 vintage look prints.

I have to say, though, that print was a pain in the rump to sew with!!! It’s woven but it reacts like knit!! PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! And every time I took the iron to it, it would expand! I love it but it was a PAIN! 😉

SquigglyTwigs Designs pattern test pants 002

I also made Colin a pair of pants from the same pattern. I used the standard size 6 with added cuff. I used a heavier weight knit for the main pant portion and a medium weight knit for the cuffs. He LOVES them. He would rather wear knits than anything else! 😉

I will be linking this up with the sew along linky party at Project Run & Play tomorrow!! You should go check out all the AWESOME looks that link up every week! SOOOOOOOO much talent!!!!

February Secret Subject Swap Take 2

Welcome to Take Two of February’s Secret Subject Swap. This week, 14 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to read ALLLLL the Secret Subject Swap posts!! You WON’T be sorry!!!!

“What it was like to grocery shop without a Starbucks in every store” submitted by The Mommy Ref.

This secret subject hits SOOOOO close to home. You see I live in a town with *gulp* NO STARBUCKS! Yes!! You read that correctly! There is not a single Starbucks in this whole town! OOOOH! The HUMANITY!!!! It has taken me 3 months to come to grips with that concept. It hasn’t been an easy battle. I thought for a while that I might have to check myself into a Starbucks Withdrawal Center, but I couldn’t find one of those either. Most other people across America can HAVE their Starbucks any old time they please. But NOOOOOO, not me! If I want a super yummy peppermint hot chocolate I have to drive for 35 MINUTES! Yes! The closest Starbucks is 35!!! MINUTES!!!! AWAY!!! I imagine living in Alaska would be better. At least there you can watch the wildlife and enjoy the snow. SIGH….

Now that I’ve started my rant, let me tell you the OTHER things my town does NOT have….

TARGET!! Obviously, no Starbucks would also equal no Target. They seem to come as a pair these days. WAH!!!!!!!

NO Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts!!!!! We do have a small, locally owned doughnut shop but it just doesn’t compare. Their doughnuts taste like cardboard! I didn’t think it would be easy to mess up a doughnut… I was wrong.

NO books stores of ANY kind! GASP!! This one is even worse than not having Starbucks!!! I haven’t bought a single book since we moved! My nerves can’t take much more!

No Michael’s, JoAnn’s or Hancock’s! Not even a Hobby Lobby!!! There IS a small, locally owned fabric shop and it’s OK….. It will do in a pinch, I suppose, but the selection is not very large.

No mall, people! NO MALL!!!! No Yankee Candle! No Bath and Body Works!!! Not even a Sears!

I live at the edge of the world!!!

There is vast nothingness surrounding me!

Civilization is over 35 miles away!!!! The only store we have is WALMART!!!!

So, the next time you go out shopping and grab something from Starbucks, remember me! Drink one FOR ME!!! Remind me of what it is like TO have a Starbucks on every corner!

Also, I might have a list for Target…… 😉

Here are links to all the sites now featuring Secret Subject Swap posts.  Sit back, grab a Starbucks, and check them all out. See you there:

Epically Awesome Award of Epic Awesomeness

The Epic Award of Epic Awesomeness was bestowed upon me by the epically awesome, super hilarious Just a Little Nutty!!

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! It’s about time someone recognized my epic awesomeness… LOL 😉

The rules are simple:
Nominate 10 bloggers that you think deserve this.
Provide 10 random facts about yourself.
So, here’s goes the fun!

Ten things… Hmm…. Let me think…… I want to put something different from what is on my About Me page. 😉

1- I am short… VERY short! Barely 5 ft tall!!!

2- I don’t really have a favorite color, I like them all!! Well, except brown. BLECK!!!  But if I absolutely HAD to pick it would be close between yellow and red.

3- I have fibromyalgia and it SUCKS! Big time!! It’s definitely kicking my butt this week. :/

4- I realllly realllly REALLLLY want to go to England and Ireland someday.

5- I can wiggle my ears! LOL

6- I have been a member at Paperback Swap for almost 6 1/2 years and I have definitely built a sizable personal library. LOL  The Hubby never stops complaining about all of my books. 😛 to him!

7- I can speak pig Latin. (Yes, I am reaching now. LOL) My cousin and I were taught my aunt.

8- I have thing for cows and owls. I’ve collected cows for about 25 years! The owl obsession has only been for the past 5 or 6 years.

9- I am taking 5 college courses right now, only one is for a certificate, though. The rest are just for the sake of the knowledge itself. I will be picking up 2 more classes in the next few months but at least one of them will be done by then.

10- I am an only child. My dad is one of 9 and my mom was one of 15. The Hubby is one of 5 boys. And of course, I have 5 of my own. 😉

There you! 10 completely boring facts about me… LOL

Now to pass this on to 10 other EPICALLY AWESOME bloggers!

OH!! Coming up Friday is the Secret Subject Swap Take 2 for February! YAY!!!!!!!! 😀

In a few days I will be sharing 2 pattern tests for SquigglyTwigs Designs!!!!

I am working on my signature look for final challenge at Project Run & Play. You should stop by and check out all the men’s shirt refashions in the link up!!

I am also working on study themes for Marco Polo and electricity. After that I am thinking about an owl unit…

Busy, busy, busy!! If only this flare up would go away and leave me alone I could get more accomplished!

Men’s Shirt Refashion Tutorial (of sorts)

Men's Shirt Refashion 011

I didn’t take but a few pictures during the making of this outfit but I think I can still walk you through the process with what pics I DO have. 😉

Men's Shirt Refashion 002

I started with a large men’s shirt and my BFF, the seam ripper.

Men's Shirt Refashion 005

First I picked the seams off the sleeves.

Next came the collar (the fold over part).

Then I picked off the cuffs.

Men's Shirt Refashion 006

I cut the shirt along the white line.

Then I sewed up the side seams.

Men's Shirt Refashion 020

Next I sewed a finishing stitch along the arm holes/sleeve edges.

Then I pinned and sewed on the sequined ribbon.

After that I pinned and sewed the sequined ribbon to what was left of the collar.

Next I pinned and sewed the sequined ribbon around the high waist, leaving it open on the ends for the elastic casing.

I then threaded the elastic through, pulled the ends out of the casing and sewed the casing closed. After that I pulled on the elastic and cut the ends.

I did NOT hem the bottom of the top. I plan on going back and adding the sequined ribbon to the bottom as soon as I can get my hands on more of it! LOL So for the time being it just has a finishing stitch across the bottom. (Done after the pics were taken.)

Men's Shirt Refashion 019

The pants were a little tricky. You have to cut the tops of each sleeve below the curve where it fits to the arm holes. If Cailey had been any taller it probably would not have worked so well. LOL

After the tops are cut off, turn one sleeve inside out and slide down into the other sleeve. Then sew the crotch seam.  The inseam is already there from the sleeve seams. 😉

Next, I sewed a finishing stitch across the waist of the pants. Then I folded and pressed about 1″.

After that I sewed the elastic casing, inserted 3/4″ elastic and finished it up.

The last step was adding the sequined ribbon to the bottoms of the legs.

Men's Shirt Refashion 015

For the cuff bracelets, I cut a little out of the middle of each to make them smaller. Then I sewed them back together.

Next i took off the plain buttons and added the sparkly ones. 😉

Men's Shirt Refashion 012

The whole thing was MUCH easier than I thought it was going to be. If I knew it was going to be that easy I would have taken more pictures! LOL

OH!! I almost forgot!! Her hair tie was made from the fold over part of the collar! LOL I just top stitched the open seam. 😉

I hope this is helpful!! If you have ANY questions, please use the Contact Me button at the top of the page and send me an email!
