DinoROAR 1

If you’ve been following my blog then you know I have been sewing along with Project Run & Play this season. It is SOOOO much fun!! I have been using up my stash and challenging myself. This outfit was by far the most challenging and I definitely made the mistakes to prove it! LOL BUT I think it still turned out well. 😉 Colin LOVES it. He never asks to keep something on after pictures but this time he did. YAY!!!!!!

DinoROAR 2

I made 3 coordinating pieces – the denim shorts, the raglan tee and the vest. All 3 pieces have the dino print on them. 😉

It is SOOOO hard to get him to hold still and smile for the pictures! LOL He would rather be in motion.

DinoROAR 4

I printed out a dinosaur footprint to use as a guide in cutting the applique.

This is my very first raglan tee!! I found it to be very much like making a peasant blouse.

DinoROAR 3

Here are some more firsts!

First time working with denim (other than patching).

First time making inset pockets (without a pattern) and I think that next time I will cut the a bit bigger. They are functional but I think it would have looked better if more of the print was showing.

First time making a faux fly. That was soooo much easier than I thought it was going to be! LOL

I’ll be linking this up at Project Run & Play tomorrow! Be sure to go check out all of the other boy looks!! 😀

On Tuesday I will be putting up the tutorial!

I wonder if I can bribe him into letting me take more pics…. LOL

How We Do State Studies

I have to admit that our state studies have sort of fallen by the wayside since our big move. Shame on me… But I plan on getting back into them. Really! LOL Anyway, I thought I would share how we do our state studies.

Fly on the Wall – January

YAY!!! It’s Fly on the Wall Day!!! 😀

Have you ever considered what people might think if they saw what goes on behind-the-scenes at your house? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to catch a glimpse of someone else’s daily life?

Fly on the Wall is a monthly post by a group of bloggers challenged to let our readers see what it might be like to be a fly on the wall in our homes. Each post is not a single story, but a compilation of snippets, each one its own quote or event or conversation (or disaster) strung together to provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into our lives.
On the same day at the same time, all the participating bloggers post their Fly on the Wall submissions and link up to each other.
Buzz around these posts, see what you think:

If you were a fly on the wall in MY house here are just a few of the crazy things you would see and hear…..

You all know that Jacob came to visit just after Christmas. Well, he talked us into playing the Logo Game. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s a very fun game BUT it’s A LOT more fun if someone isn’t yelling out the answers that isn’t even playing!!! Thanks, Hubby…. Thanks a lot…  We had to keep starting the game over… I didn’t think it would ever end. It finally got to the point where we had to whisper the questions to each other.

While Jacob was here the older kids and I decided to play poker. Now, I warned them ahead of time that I wasn’t going to take it easy on them… LOL  We were using The Hubby’s cards that he got from Bass Pro. Instead of the regular face cards, these had deer on them. It came time for me to deal and I called deuces and one-eyed jacks wild. Well…. you see….. apparently ALLLL the jacks in that deck have only one eye. Deanna got so frustrated (she wasn’t doing well) she yells, “You and your stupid third eye blind jacks!!!” Ummm… dear, (pun intended) Third Eye Blind is a band….. Yeah, that caused a HUGE eye roll and a couple of stomps. LOL

When Jacob visited he brought us all presents; cool knife with DAD on it for The Hubby, a deck of Yu-Gi-Oh cards for Joshua, perfume for Deanna, Yankee Candle tarts for me…. Now we get to the good stuff…. For Cailey he bought a SINGING Littlest Pet Shop… SHOOT ME PLEASE!!! And for Colin… A REMOTE CONTROL CAR. What’s wrong with a remote control car you ask?? Well, he’s 5 yrs old and we have 3 cats….. Yeah. THAT’S what’s wrong with a remote control car…..

Remember when you were little and you thought if you couldn’t see someone they couldn’t see you so you would cover your face thinking you disappeared??? LOL Well, it really works! LOL I was lying across the bed the other day talking with The Hubby and Deanna. I had a headache so I put my face down in the comforter. The Hubby looked up and asked Deanna where I went. I raised my head up and yelled, “It WORKS!! It really WORKS!! You can’t see me!” ROFLOL!! Apparently the color of my shirt blended perfectly with the comforter. LOL

The Hubby to me – What exactly is a Honey Boo Boo???

Me to The Hubby – Don’t ask.

It may come as no surprise to find out that Joshua’s favorite store in the whole wide world is GameStop. He LIVES to go there. So, the other day he still had some Christmas money that he just HAD to go spend. I talked him to waiting for The Hubby to get off work so they could go together. We pull up in front of the store and the guys get out. They are gone 2 seconds when they come back.

Me- What’s up?

The Hubby – Well, I think the girl that’s working has to go take a dump… She just put a sign up that said “Be back in 20 mins.”

The Hubby decided he didn’t want to wait so I take him home and Joshua and I go back.  Let’s just say that I think The Hubby was right. We walk into the store and are hit by the WORST smelling air freshener known to man and it was STRONG….. I made tracks and left Joshua to deal with it alone. LOL

Colin – Hey, Cailey! Guess what! I’m wearing clothes that don’t match!!!!

Deanna – Momma!! Come look at what Cailey did!

I go and look… Cailey has some sort of perfectly round ball in her hand.

Cailey – It’s a potato ball. Do you know how hard that is to do????

And possible the CRAZIEST thing to happen around here – I have started taking college courses. Just 3 to start with but OH MY GOSH! What was I thinking???? I’m taking Business 101, Business Growth and Art History. The first module in Business 101 is supposed to take 10 hours to complete. 10 HOURS!!! Plus it takes me twice as long because of all the notes I take! LOL Heaven help me.

I really hope you will go check out the other links!! They are sure to put a smile on your face!

Orange Crush Dress Tutorial

Orange Crush 1

Here is the tutorial I promised you!! 😀 This is dress that I sewed for the Project Run & Play Season 6 Week 2 Challenge – Stripes and Polka Dots Sew Along. If you scroll down the page you will find the link up where other bloggers have added their Week 2 outfits. You should check them out! There are some seriously talented ladies there!!!

What I used –

about 1 yard of main

about 1/2 yard of contrast

That’s it! Well, other than the obvious (thread, sewing machine, etc. LOL)

Orange Crush 004

Sew the sides together creating a long rectangle. Leave the top open a few inches. (The length and width of the rectangle will depend upon the size of your child and your personal preference.)

Press your seam open.

Orange Crush 007

Fold the sides of the opening in by 1/4″ and again by 1/4″. Sew in place.

Orange Crush 008

Now you need to measure and cut the arm holes. (Make sure to cut at an angle.)

Orange Crush 009

Cut 2 long strips about 2 1/2″ wide. Fold the sides in and press. Now fold in half and press.

Orange Crush 0010

Open up the strip and fold over the edges of the arm holes, pin and sew in place.

Orange Crush 012

Time to add the pleats at the neck line!

To pleat you basically fold the fabric behind itself, press and pin in place.

I marked the places where I put the pleats.

Orange Crush 015

Now put 2 rows of stitches across the top of the pleats to hold them securely.

It really is hard to see the pleats with the stripes! LOL

Orange Crush 014

Add pleats to the back and sew 2 lines of stitches across the top.

Orange Crush 018

Cut a long fabric strip (long enough to fit very loosely around your child’s neck AND tie a nice bow). The width of the fabric will depend upon how long your child’s neck is.

Fold over the edges by 1/2″ and press. Fold in half and press again.

Orange Crush 019

Open up the middle fold and pin in place over the neck line.

As you can see, I didn’t make mine long enough to tie at first. I had thought about making a button closure but when I tried it out I just didn’t like it. LOL I think the big bow adds more to the back. 😉

Orange Crush 024

Now, the bottom pleats!! This can take a little while…. LOL I used a strip that was 6″ wide by about 80″ long (2- 40″ strips sewn together).

Fold the strip in half and press making it 3″ wide.

Now start pleating, pressing and pinning until the whole thing is pleated!

Orange Crush 027

Pin the top of the pleats to the bottom of the dress (right side) and sew into place.

When you get to the edge of the dress, leave the rest of the pleated part unattached.

Press out the remaining pleats.

Fold the end edges in by 1/4 and sew closed. Now tie the remains!

Orange Crush Dress 3

Orange Crush Dress 2

The bow at the neckline was an afterthought but easy enough to make.

I used a 7″ x  5″ rectangle. Fold it over and sew 2 sides (right sides together). Turn right side out and press. Turn the raw edges in and top stitch around all 4 sides.  Take a small strip about 2″ x 3″ and fold in the sides by 1/4″ and press. Wrap it around the center of the rectangle and sew in place.

As always, let me know if this was easy to follow. If you have ANY questions feel free to use the Contact Me button at the top of the page and email me! 😀

SquigglyTwigs Designs Pattern Test

SquigglyTwigs Designs pattern test 006

I had the wonderful opportunity to test another pattern for my friend over at SquigglyTwigs Designs.  I just love her patterns and tutorials!!! They are so easy to follow! It took me only a couple of hours to cut and sew this cute skirt!! The patterns and tutorials are great for both beginners and intermediate sewists.

The length on this skirt (the Twirl Skirt) is supposed to hit just below the knee. As you can see mine is quite a bit longer. LOL I did the pattern test for the standard fit size 8. The reason that pattern designers want pattern testers is so they can check fit and make sure that all pieces and instructions are there, accurate and easy to follow.

SquigglyTwigs Designs pattern test 011

All SquigglyTwigs Designs patterns are wonderfully priced and most include instructions for adults, children and dolls!

I hope you go check SquigglyTwigs Designs out!!! You won’t be sorry!! Be sure to click on the Tutorials section!!!

Orange Crush Dress 6

This dress has  A LOT of pleats!! The front and back sides are both pleated at the neck.

And then there are alllll the pleats at the bottom! 😉

It was a super fun dress to make and I will be sharing the tutorial with you next week! 😀

In the meantime, I will be linking up at Project Run & Play as soon as the Week 2 Challenge opens. LOL

OHH!! I will also be sharing a pattern test for SquigglyTwigs Designs sometime this week!!! YAY!!!! 😀

After that I will be hard at work on my boy’s look for the Week 3 Challenge. I think I have my fabric choices pinned down but other than that I am SOOOOOOO not sure of what I’ll be doing! LOL Not good!! Not good at all!

My subject is – Tell us about you and your husband’s love story.  It was submitted by: http://rushingforbagels.blogspot.comy

This is a very timely topic for me. The Hubby and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary. Not that we actually got to do anything or go anywhere…. You see, our anniversary is December 30th…… 5 days after Christmas…. Yeah, we are ALWAYS broke by then! LOL

I decided that instead of telling you our story I would tell you about the day we got married. It was definitely… ummmm… unforgettable…. LOL

We had been planning a big wedding with all the trimmings but the warring factions  ummmm, other family members, were giving us some major stress. SOOOO we decided to elope. Easy peasy, right?? Well, I still wanted to get married in church so we contacted the preacher to see if he would just let us show up and get married. He was delighted so that is what we did. I had a pretty dress that my mom had given me and The Hubby had a nice sweater that my mom had given him. Perfect. Time to get married.

We go to the church with 2 of The Hubby’s friends as witnesses. We get there and are ushered into the preacher’s office where we begin the formalities, do you have the license, ID, etc…. Then off to the sanctuary to be married!

And that is where it started……..

The preacher continually calls The Hubby by the wrong name. He also seems to have trouble holding onto the Bible and drops it on The Hubby’s feet several times.

Meanwhile, I am a blubbering idiot that forgot to wear waterproof mascara… Yeah, it wasn’t pretty! Thankfully the preacher gave me his handkerchief (which I still have).

Now, off to the preacher’s office to sign the marriage certificate…. if the preacher can find a pen that works…. and if he doesn’t fall trying to sit down in his chair ….. and if he can get the seal thingy to work properly…..

But it all worked out in the end and we were properly married without the warring factions, ummmmm stressful relatives…..

I won’t say that 20 years have been easy, both The Hubby and I are stubborn people.  Every little issue will pass, you just have to stick it out. Don’t argue about money, life is too short and money comes and goes. Check your ego and pride at the door, not every little thing is about you. Basically, treat your spouse in the manner you wish to be treated even when angry. Never say anything hurtful because the anger will leave but the words will still echo.

PLEASE go visit all the other lovely bloggers!! I promise you won’t be sorry! 😉
