  .

Here goes:

YILES!!!! My favorite Halloween memory?? Oh, boy… I have been thinking and thinking and thinking about this one since I found out that it was going to be my subject. I have come up with exactly NOTHING! LOL It’s not that I haven’t had good Halloweens, it’s that I just can’t think of a reallllly, realllllly stand out memory except for the first Halloweens of each of my children. LOL I really liked the 3 Halloweens that I went as Princess Leia (once from each movie). Then there were the 2 awesome homemade costumes, one was a pumpkin when I was about 3 made by my Grandma Painter and the other was a pretty fairy costume made by my Grandma Blevins.

Now, if it’s CRAPPY Halloween memories, I have a few of THOSE that stand out!! LOL

One Halloween when I was about 10 I decided to go as a devil. Now, this was before they had the cute girly devil costumes. Oh, no! They had the regular old kind. AND I had a short hair cut a la Mary Lou Retton.

Can you see where I’m going with this??

Anyway, I went to a Halloween party and no one recognized me. They all thought I was a BOY!!!!!!!! I was sooooo upset!! I cried and cried. I called my mom to come get me early. After that I made sure to always go as something girly! LOL And I let my hair grow back out. LOL

There were a couple of Halloweens much worse than that but I don’t want to depress you so we’ll just skip those, K???? LOL

Anyway, to keep you all from being completely bored by my lame post I will post some awesome pictures and cartoons! ;)

OOH!!! I almost forgot!!! I took some pictures of Deanna and myself in Halloween makeup!

Me….. LOL

I LOOOOOVE those fake eyelashes!!!

Deanna. Too bad you can’t see her fangs that well!!!

I still can’t believe she let me take a picture of her!

So, why don’t you all go check out the other blogs, they are bound to have something MUCH better than my post… ;)

~~*~~HAPPY HALLOWEEN~~*~~

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!!! I LOOOOOVE IT!! I love the weather! The leaves falling from the trees! The hot chocolate! The costumes! And the candy… LOL ;)

BUT my two little ones are sick!!!! WAH!!! Cailey and Colin both have nasty colds. :( First no Halloween party at church because of the Frankenstorm and now no trick or treating!! They are so disappointed! But we are going to try to make it up to them a little. They are wearing their costumes all day and vegging out in front of the TV with Halloween cartoons. After The Hubby gets home from work we are going to go out and buy them some candy. At least this way they will be sure to get their favorites!

I can’t believe, with having 5 kids, that this will be the first time this has happened. The older 3 always got sick right after Halloween.

Here are some pics of Cailey and Colin in their mommy made costumes!

Here are the Halloween Rice Krispies Treats and Cailey and Colin made last night.

I think there are only 3 left! LOL

AND I am the very proud nominee of the The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!! Given to me by Shelly Bean at Follow Me Home. You should check out her blog, it is AWWWWWWESOME!!!!!!

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH, Shelly!!!

AND since I have so much going on around here I have been given a reprieve from jumping through the usual award hoops! LOL

Here is my to-do list for today -

Sorting through Jacob’s room. (He moved out the other day and left me HUGE mess!!!)

Running donations to the thrift store.

Taking care of 2 sick little ones.

Packers arrive between 8 and 9 in the morning.

Laundry, laundry and more laundry.

And all the other crap that I do everyday….

Heaven help me!!! LOL I’m already tired and I haven’t even started on any of this yet! I need a nap just thinking about it all!!!!

Fairy, Frankenstorm and Farewells

Yes, yes… I know… Today’s title is very much like yesterday’s! LOL BUT the post is very different.

I finished Cailey’s costume yesterday! YAY!!!!! She LOVES it!!!!! BUT because of the Frankenstorm the Halloween party was rescheduled. Now, ordinarily that would not be such a big deal BUT since we are moving at the end of the week, we won’t be able to go. Cailey was SO upset. SO, Momma Hope (she sort of adopted our family and I LOVE HER SOOOOO MUCH!!!!) is going to take Cailey and Colin trick or treating to all the church members’ houses so she can show off her costume. LOL That made it better. ;)

I was lucky enough to be invited to lunch Friday with Momma Hope, Grandmomma Verna and Marie. These are 3 very special ladies. I already mentioned that Momma Hope sort of adopted my family into her heart and Grandmomma Verna is her mother. You will never meet anyone as kind and generous and loving as those 2 special ladies. Marie is taking over Bags of Hope and Love for me here. She is SUCH a blessing!! I am so thankful for her!! We had a very nice lunch with lots of chatting. LOL I am so thankful that I got to go before we moved.

Today at church I said my final farewells to a very special group of people. God blessed me so much when He had Momma Hope stop at my door and invite me to her church. My life will be forever changed just from knowing those special people.

Pastor David passed around a church directory and had everyone sign it. SUCH a special going away gift. I will always be able to look at it and remember each and every one of them.

I cried and cried and cried. I know God has a purpose for us. I know that we are moving to Georgia for a reason. I may not know that reason for a while but I know there is one. Like a friend said today, it may only be to support our family better but that is a reason!

I have pictures of Cailey’s fairy princess costume!!!! I am sooooo very very sorry that I forgot to take the pictures for a tutorial. I’m not sure that I would have done a very good job with the tutorial anyway….. I was flying by the seat of my pants on that costume!!! LOL

She LOVES her costume!!! YAY!!!!! :)

Deanna was disappointed about the Halloween party, too. I was going to make her a long black skirt today. Last night was did a trial run with the Dios de los Muertos make up. It looked REALLLY good. She wouldn’t let me take any pictures, though. :/ I’m thinking she might want to dress up on Halloween. She will be helping Grandmomma Verna hand out candy while Momma Hope and I take the little ones trick or treating. :)

I was going to finish Colin’s dino costume today. All it needs are eyes, teeth and nostrils… But since the party was cancelled, we spent the day flood proofing the sunroom. Well, not really flood proofing…. more like cleaning and making sure all the books were above the flood level. SIGH… PLEASE PRAY that our bottom floor doesn’t flood again!!!!!

We had a little silliness going on last night. Check out these pics!!!

Clown Cailey!

Clown Colin!

Hubby the Clown!!! I still can’t believe Colin talked him into this!!! Sorry the pic is blurry but I only got one shot….. LOL

Joshua the Clown!!!

Deanna put the wig on for a split second but wouldn’t let me take a picture… LOL I was hoping Jacob would show up today so we could get one of him. Where is that boy???? He TOLD me he was coming today!!!! He better not make me call all his friends… ;)

They are saying that the worst of the Frankenstorm will be tomorrow night into Tuesday. Pray for us!!! The Hubby is still planning on going into work and that means I will be getting up at stupid:30 in the morning to drive him through the Frankenstorm. Yay….. :/

I will start going through closets tomorrow in preparation for the move. Fun…. LOL And toys boxes will need to be thinned out… Pray for me on that one. Colin will NOT be happy!!!!

HUGS and PRAYERS for all of those in the path of the freaky storm!!! Just remember that God is in control. We can depend upon HIS strength!!! He will take care of you!

Fall Festival, Frankenstorm and Farewell

We headed out to the Frog Level Fall Festival this morning. This was our third time. I LOVE the Frog Level community! I made sure to buy a t-shirt this year. Last year it was cold and rainy so I bought a sweatshirt…. LOL I am really going to miss it here. This was the first place that I truly felt at home since I left West Virginia 20 years ago. Pray that I can find a “home feeling” in Georgia.

Cailey rode a pony but Colin said they were too stinky. LOL  And of course we had to get candy apples and cotton candy!

Well, I guess everyone has heard about the Frankenstorm that’s approaching. It couldn’t have waited until AFTER we moved??? LOL But I can’t complain… At least it will be out of the way for Halloween and Moving Day!!!!

We went out last night and stocked up on canned food and drinks. We have plenty of batteries and flash lights. We might could use some more candles, though….. I am charging all the electronics!! And I need to find our corded phone. The last time I saw it Colin was playing with it. LOL We lost power during Irene and from what I understand, this has the potential to be a lot worse.

We have cards and board games to play with the kids. I also have a Nook and about 1,000 paper books to read! LOL

OH!! I need to remember to fill the tubs, sinks and washer with water! We have a well so if the power goes, so does our ability to flush!!!!!!

Please, pray that we don’t get flooded like we did last time. We lost A LOT of books and toys when Irene and then Lee came through. It worries me….. We were bailing out the sunroom while the storms were raging. NOT FUN!!!!!!

I went on my last drop off for the Concord Bags of Hope and Love.  We took 11 bags!!!! YIPPPPEEE!! There were only 3 left in the office. It was a little sad, though. My last time doing it here…. But I am looking ahead! It will be great to get another one started in Georgia! Spread the Hope and Love!!!!!

I am still slaving away on Cailey’s costume… BUT…. I forgot to take pictures. I am SOOOOOOOOO sorry!!!!!! I will have to come up with another tutorial for you…. :( I need to get this costume DONE!!!! LOL I have just had sooooo much going on that it’s taking me forever to get anything accomplished!!

My blog views have been VERRRRRY low the past week… Not sure what is going on. Is it because it has been a long time since my last tutorial??? Or is WordPress acting up?? My numbers haven’t been this bad since the first week of the blog! LOL

BUSY BUSY BUSY

My goodness! Busy, busy, busy! That’s me! LOL I had a list of 7 errands that I had to do today! YILES!!!! And then I had to !#$%^ up the dining room… ;)  Then I made Philly Cheesecake Brownies! YUUUUMMY!!!

I dropped off 6 more Bags of Hope and Love this morning! YAY!! They were very happy to get them. Now, it’s time to get busy sewing more bags!! LOL Speaking of Bags of Hope and Love, I want to say a great, big, public THANK YOU to Regena! You are SO AWESOME! I will be picking up a gift card that she sent to the church to use for Bags of Hope and Love! I am SOOOOOOO excited!!!! I will be hitting Walmart and the Dollar Tree tomorrow to get the things we need! THANK YOU, Regena!! You are a blessing!! And may God bless you in return!! :)

It is so wonderful to see how many loving, caring, generous people there are still in the world today. We usually hear too much about the bad people and never enough about the good ones! I have been so very blessed to know so many of the very best people! And most of you know who you are!! ;) I am very honored and blessed to know you all!!!

We are still debating the move to Georgia… Now there’s a new horse in the race… A place in Mississippi (Hey, Judy!) wants The Hubby there. LOL WOW!  It’s wonderful that we will have so many choices. Pray the good Lord directs us to the one we should pick! Apparently the place in Mississippi is only 15 minutes away from where The Hubby’s very good friend lives. So much to think about. So much to pray about!!!

In sewing news, I have my very first CLIENT!! WOOOO HOOO!!! My friend wants me to make her son a Snoopy costume for Halloween. I went yesterday and got all the materials. :) SOOOOOOO excited about this! I have a client!! Hee hee hee hee!! LOL

In more sewing news, I now have all I need for Cailey’s Tinkerbell costume and Colin’s dinosaur costume. I started cutting the pattern for the dinosaur today. For Cailey’s I am going patternless. ;)

Here is the one I am using for Colin-

M6185

McCall’s M6185

I’ll be making the view with the camouflage dinosaur, only his will be yellow and blue, thanks to Hancock’s remnant bins! LOL His whole costume will cost a total of $7!!! I got so lucky with that!!!

Cailey’s will also be a cheapy. ;) Hers will cost a total of $5! Gotta love those remnant bins!

Jacob’s very good friend from way back in the 3rd grade is now off to college for pre-med. She is such a sweetheart! She came to visit us a couple of months ago. Anyway, she needs a laptop sleeve so I am making one for her. I guess I could do a tutorial for that! Why didn’t I think about that??? LOL I already cut the pieces!!!

In book news, The Hubby bought me a copy of “The Casual Vacancy” by JK Rowling. He said it was so he wouldn’t have to hear me complain about the marathon driving… Uh, huh… Well, I told HIM that I would take the book AND still complain. LOL ;)

We missed church on Sunday. :( Cailey wasn’t feeling very well. Thankfully she seems back to normal now!

Time for youth!

Ghostly Giggles Skirt Tutorial

I finished the skirt! YAY!!! It was actually fairly fast… I started it the day we left for Georgia and didn’t touch again until today. ;)

What I used:

1 package of Casper the Friendly Ghost fat quarters

3/4″ elastic

Step 1 -

I cut each fat quarter into thirds, they were 7″ wide. Then I cut 3″ off the bottoms.

Step 2-

I took 6 of the 7″ strips and sewed them together for the top tier of the skirt.

Then I took 12 of the 7″ strips and sewed them together for the bottom tier.

Usually a pack of fat quarters will have more of 2 designs than the others and one fat quarter all by itself.

Step 3-

Next, I sewed 2 lines of gathering stitches. On my machine I set both stitch settings to the largest settings. Then, pull gently on the bottom threads to create your gathers.

Step 4-

Remove the cat from the fabric. SIGH………….

Step 5-

Now, pin the bottom of your top tier to the top of the bottom tier with right sides together, adjusting the gathers as needed.

Then sew the tiers together!

Step 6-

Next, pin up the sides of the skirt and sew the back seam!

Step 7-

Fold over the top 1/2″ and press. Fold over 1″, press and pin. Then sew your elastic casing for the waist band, making sure to leave an opening for the elastic!

Step 8-

Now, cut your elastic to your child’s waist measurement -1″.

Then, safety pin both ends of the elastic and either hold tightly to both ends or pin one end to yourself.  Insert the elastic through the opening.

Next, sew the opening closed!

Step 9-

Now, fold up the bottom of the skirt 1/2″ and press. Fold up 1″, press and pin. Next sew your hem!!!

Now you are ALLLLLL done!! YAY!!!!! You could always add a ruffle to the bottom if you’d like. :)

As always, I would love to hear what you think about the tutorial! Was it clear and easy to follow??? And definitely let me know if you decide to make one! I would love to see it!!!

Georgia on My Mind

We are home. My goodness what a trip. Down and back in less than 36 hours…. We got in around midnight after leaving at 6 pm Thursday. I hate marathon driving. I was so stiff and sore after getting out of the van. My hands were almost in a permanent claw from gripping the steering wheel for so long! LOL

The job interview went extremely well. They reallllly want The Hubby to sign on with them. They didn’t talk numbers, though… They want  The Hubby to give THEM a figure…. So, right now The Hubby is thinking about it all. He did let them know that we would need them to pay for relocation.

He still has another offer from a different company also in GA. This one is more in the Atlanta area. The Hubby really likes the guy that he has been talking to from that company. But he isn’t sure that he would love that job. BUT we do know that they were offering at least $75,000 a year for that one. Definitely something to consider!

It’s just all up in the air. I keep praying for Him to show me His will. That’s all I know to do. Pray for His wisdom to show us the way and help us make the right choice.

Here are some pictures that I took during the trip. As usually Deanna wouldn’t let herself be photographed. :/ Both of the older boys stayed here. I was a little nervous about leaving them but since they are 19 and 16 AND we weren’t going to be gone long, I figured it could be a learning opportunity… LOL

I do have some sewing going on. Right now I have an almost finished Halloween skirt for Cailey out of Casper fat quarters (there will be a tutorial for that). Then I will be making the Snoopy costume for my friend’s son. Then I will be making costumes for the Cs. THEN I want to make this-

M6387

McCall’s M6387

out of these fabrics-

What do you think????

Then it will be time to start on Thanksgiving and Christmas themed things…. And a few presents…. ;)

The Hocus Pocus Skirt Tutorial

Here is it! My Big Idea… LOL I like it… It didn’t turn out EXACTLY how I wanted it to, but I’m satisfied… There is one part that I will probably go back and change, though…. I was trying to go for a multi-layer effect so instead of sewing the lace ON TOP of the underskirt hem, I sewed it to the back… I think I am going to grab my BFF , Sally the Seam Ripper, and go back and do that part over. It would look much nicer that way, I think….

Anyway! Here we go!

What I used-

2 yards of print for the upper skirt

2 yards of solid for the under skirt

1 old lace curtain LOL

2 old lace valances LOL

1″ elastic

I got some new curtains for the dining/sewing room/library and I have been storing the old lace ones in the linen closest. LOL

Step 1 -

OK, let me first explain about my short legs… They are Hobbit short, people… Seriously. Actually, I have Hobbit feet, too, just minus all the yucky foot hair…. LOL  Anyway, I cut the upper skirt at 23″. LOL S

So, cut 2 pieces, each the width of the fabric.

When you cut, make a curve at the bottom, like in the picture below.

Step 2-

I cut the underskirt at 27″. Cut 2 pieces, the width of the fabric and with a curve.

Step 3 -

I cut 6 1/2 ” off both sides of the curtains. You will need to cut the lace the width of the skirt fabric. So, you will also have 2 sections of lace.

Step 4-

Next, I cut the ruffles off both valances.  I left about 3″ of the plain lace above the ruffles.

Step 5-

Sew one end of the lace strips together.  Set aside.

Step 6-

Now, right sides together, sew ONE side of the underskirt together.

I promise that I ironed that fabric.. LOL I ironed and ironed and ironed and that is just as good as it would get. LOL But, really, I think it’s fitting for a Halloween skirt. LOL

Step 7-

Now, roll up 3/4″ of the bottom of the underskirt and press. The roll up 1″, press and sew your hem.

It would look MUCH better if you have brown thread… LOL I don’t. I probably should have used black instead of white, though…. ;)

Learn from my goof ups! ;)

Step 8-

Now, fold the 2 0r 3″ that you left above the ruffle over the lace strip, pin and sew together.

Step 9-

On this part, if I were you, I would pin the ruffle OVER the hem of the underskirt and attach it there, instead of behind…. Again, learn from my many mistakes! LOL ;)

Set this aside.

Step 10-

Right sides together, pin and sew up ONE side of the overskirt.

Step 11-

Fold up 3/4″  of the bottom of the overskirt and press. Fold up 1″, press, pin and sew the hem.

This probably would have looked better with the black thread, too… SIGH… Live and learn. Or better yet, SEW and learn! LOL

Step 12-

Pin the right side of the underskirt to the wrong side of the upperskirt and sew them together with a finishing stitch. (zigzag, overlock)

Step 13-

Pin the sides of the overskirt together and sew the side seam. Do the same to the underskirt.

Step 14-

Fold over the top 1 1/2″ , press, pin and sew the elastic casing making sure to leave an opening to insert the elastic through. ;)

Step 15-

Pin a safety pin to both ends of the elastic and insert the elastic into the casing.

Step 16-

Sew the ends of the elastic together using a zigzag stitch.

Now, sew your casing closed!

ALL DONE!!!!! :)

Here’s a close up of the bottom! :)

Please, let me know what you think about this tutorial. If you make the skirt PLEASE let me know!!!!! :)

I may be a little quiet the next few days. We are going to be leaving to go to Georgia so The Hubby can check out at least one job, possibly two!!!

A New Idea

I have an idea that started floating around in my head today. I am SO excited about it!!! It involves this-

And this -

Intrigued?? Well, you are going to have to wait a day or two. ;) But I will hopefully be posting a new tutorial in a couple of days. :) Be prepared for something Halloweeny! LOL

I have been ironing like crazy today!! My goodness! I finished a couple of presents for a friend. I wish I could share the pictures but she just might stumble onto them… LOL

I have to say, I LOVE my iron! LOL Check out this picture!!!!

Crazy, huh??? Oh my goodness! It took me FOREVER to get all the wrinkles out!!

Let’s see if I can get this to work. I LOVE this song. It has been playing in my head all day. I remember one of the first cassettes I owned was Amy Grant. Such a sweet and beautiful voice!

Hmmmm… that doesn’t look promising.. I hope it shows up. :/ ANYWAY, just in case, it’s El Shaddai. Beautiful song.

Thy Word

I hope these songs bless you! :)

These songs almost make me want to get up and sing a solo! ALMOST!! LOL It’s been MANY MANY MANY years since I was brave enough to do that!! LOL But God says to make a joyful noise… I guess that’s what you could call my singing! LOL ;)

Have a wonderful and blessed night!!!
